Clinical physics at the UMC Utrecht Hospital and in the Utrecht region
The department of clinical physics collaborates with
several hospitals in the Utrecht region: the Meander Medical Center in
Amersfoort, Hospital Hilversum and Hospital Gooi-Noord. The department
offers support in clinical physics to these hospitals that do not have clinical
physicist employed. The new dutch law concerning radiaton safety demands that
hospitals have clinical physicists employed or have a
collaboration with another hospital that has.
Clinical
physicists are specialized in one of five areas of interest: general medical
physics, radiation therapy, radiology, nuclear medicine and audiology. The
department of Clinical Physics has employed 4 General Clinical Physicists
and 1 Radiology Clinical Physicist. The clinical physicists of the UMC Utrecht
who are specialized in radiotherapy may be contacted at The Department of Radiotherapy
Clinical physicists are
valuable partners in the discussion among the various professionals working at
health care institutions. The dutch clinical physicist are organized in the
Dutch Society for Medical Physics http://www.nvkf.nl/
Expert Center
The department of Clinical Physics has a long lasting reputation for
consultancy for other hospitals, institutes and industry. Besides
outstanding relationships and collaborations in the field of research and
development, the department of Clinical Physics also is well-known for its
courses and trainings.
Clinical Support
There is an in increasing demand for clinical physicists with
the growing complexity of medical equipement, such as surgical
robots, navigation systems and patient-data management systems. In spite of the
user-friendlyness of the devices the support by clinical physicists is essential
to improve the learning curve as well as the assurance of patient safety. These
activities are performed in collaboration with the department of Medical
Technology at the UMC Utrecht.
